Job Overview
This role focuses on developing and implementing sustainable waste management systems in Geita, addressing growing urbanization challenges while promoting environmental stewardship. The position requires collaboration with municipal authorities, private sector stakeholders, and community leaders to design waste-to-energy projects and recycling initiatives aligned with Tanzania’s National Waste Management Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee implementation of integrated waste management systems
- Conduct waste audits and feasibility studies for recycling infrastructure
- Develop community education programs on waste segregation and reduction
- Coordinate with local authorities to enforce waste management regulations
- Monitor and report on waste diversion rates and environmental impact metrics
- Identify funding opportunities for sustainable waste projects
Required Skills
- Proven experience in municipal waste management systems
- Knowledge of waste-to-energy technologies and circular economy principles
- Strong project management and stakeholder coordination abilities
- Proficiency in environmental impact assessment methodologies
- Excellent data analysis and reporting skills
- Bilingual proficiency in Swahili and English
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or Public Health
- Master’s Degree preferred in Sustainable Development or Environmental Management
Experience
- 3-5 years in waste management or environmental consulting
- Previous experience in East African markets is advantageous
Salary
50,000 – 70,000 SSP annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
