Job Overview
The Mining Operations Supervisor will oversee daily mining activities at TMDC’s Mtwara site, ensuring that production targets are met while maintaining strict compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards. Reporting to the Mine Manager, the supervisor will coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and logistics teams to optimize workflow, manage resources, and resolve operational challenges. This position plays a critical role in driving efficiency, minimizing downtime, and supporting TMDC’s strategic objectives. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all on‑site mining operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, and haulage.
- Monitor production metrics and adjust work plans to achieve daily and monthly targets.
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, conducting regular safety briefings and inspections.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to schedule equipment servicing, reducing unplanned downtime.
- Manage workforce scheduling, including shift rotations, overtime, and labor allocation.
- Prepare and submit operational reports, incident logs, and performance dashboards to senior management.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives, such as lean mining techniques and cost‑reduction strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of ore grades, extraction volumes, and waste management.
- Engage with local community representatives to address concerns and promote sustainable practices.
- Support emergency response actions and incident investigations as required.
Required Skills
- Strong leadership and team‑management abilities with a focus on safety culture.
- Proficiency in mining software (e.g., MineSight, Surpac) and data analysis tools.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
- Effective communication skills for interfacing with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Tanzanian mining regulations and international best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and geological reports.
Education
A Diploma in Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a closely related technical field is required. Candidates with additional certifications in safety management (e.g., NEBOSH) or project management (e.g., PMP) will be given preference.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in underground or open‑pit mining operations, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead role. Experience in the Tanzanian mining sector or similar African markets is highly desirable.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from 2,500,000 to 3,500,000 Tanzanian Shillings (SSP), commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances for housing, transport, and hazardous duty may also be offered.
