Job Overview
The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Airtel Tanzania’s radio access network (RAN) and core network components in the Moshi region. The role involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including planning, optimization, and field operations, to ensure high‑performance, reliable, and secure network services. The successful candidate will lead technical projects, troubleshoot complex network issues, and contribute to the rollout of next‑generation technologies such as 5G. This position is critical for sustaining Airtel’s competitive edge and delivering superior service quality to customers in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and optimize LTE and 5G radio access network elements, including eNodeBs, gNodeBs, and associated backhaul.
- Perform end‑to‑end network testing, drive acceptance testing, and ensure compliance with performance benchmarks.
- Monitor network performance using OSS tools, analyze KPIs, and implement corrective actions to meet service level agreements.
- Lead network upgrade projects, coordinate with vendors, and manage site integration activities.
- Provide technical support for fault isolation, root‑cause analysis, and rapid resolution of network incidents.
- Collaborate with the planning team to develop capacity forecasts and expansion plans for the Moshi region.
- Document network designs, configuration changes, and operational procedures in accordance with corporate standards.
- Ensure network security policies are applied and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Mentor junior engineers and share best practices across the network operations team.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance network efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of LTE/5G radio technologies, protocols, and standards (3GPP).
- Proficiency with network management systems (NMS), OSS/BSS platforms, and performance monitoring tools.
- Hands‑on experience with RF planning, drive testing, and network optimization techniques.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical mindset for complex technical issues.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑team collaboration and vendor management.
- Project management experience, including planning, execution, and reporting.
- Familiarity with IP networking, MPLS, and core network architectures.
- Ability to work in field environments, including site visits and equipment installation.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS, or Huawei HCNP are advantageous.
Experience
Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in telecom network engineering, with a proven track record of managing LTE/5G deployments and network optimization projects. Experience in the East African telecom market is a plus.
Salary
The competitive salary range for this role is SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the compensation package.
