Job Overview

The Quantum Computing Research Engineer will join Microsoft Tanzania’s Quantum Research Lab in Tabora, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of physicists, computer scientists, and hardware engineers. The role involves designing, implementing, and optimizing quantum algorithms, developing software tools for quantum simulation, and contributing to the creation of scalable quantum hardware prototypes. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop quantum algorithms for optimization, cryptography, and machine learning applications.
• Implement quantum software using Q# and other quantum programming languages, ensuring high performance on both simulators and hardware.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to test and validate quantum circuits on superconducting and trapped‑ion platforms.
• Publish research findings in top‑tier conferences and journals, representing Microsoft Tanzania on the global stage.
• Mentor junior researchers and interns, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
• Engage with local universities and research institutes to build partnerships and promote quantum education in Tanzania.
• Contribute to the development of quantum error‑correction techniques and fault‑tolerant architectures.
• Provide technical expertise to product teams integrating quantum solutions into Microsoft Azure services.

Required Skills

• Deep understanding of quantum mechanics, quantum information theory, and quantum algorithm design.
• Proficiency in quantum programming languages such as Q#, Python (with Qiskit, Cirq), or Julia.
• Experience with quantum simulation tools and cloud‑based quantum platforms.
• Strong programming skills in C++, Python, or Rust for high‑performance computing.
• Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into practical engineering solutions.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and mathematical modeling capabilities.

Education

Salary
