Job Overview
The Insurance Underwriting Analyst will join the Underwriting Department in Kahama, supporting the assessment, pricing and approval of insurance proposals for commercial and personal lines. Working closely with senior underwriters, actuaries and sales teams, the analyst will evaluate risk profiles, analyse financial statements, and apply underwriting guidelines to ensure profitable and compliant policy issuance. Key Responsibilities
- Analyse insurance applications, financial statements, and risk data to determine appropriate coverage and pricing.
- Prepare detailed underwriting reports and recommendations for senior underwriters and management.
- Collaborate with sales agents to clarify policy terms, address client queries, and ensure accurate documentation.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards set by the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA).
- Utilise underwriting software and predictive analytics to improve risk assessment accuracy.
- Monitor existing policies for changes in risk exposure and recommend adjustments or renewals.
- Assist in developing and updating underwriting guidelines specific to the Kahama market.
- Participate in periodic audits and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and familiarity with underwriting platforms.
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with clients, agents and internal teams.
- Ability to interpret financial statements, credit reports and industry data.
- Knowledge of Tanzanian insurance regulations and market trends.
- Problem‑solving mindset and capacity to work under tight deadlines.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Actuarial Science or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Chartered Insurance Analyst (CIA) or equivalent are advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience
Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in insurance underwriting, risk assessment, or a closely related field. Experience within the Tanzanian market, particularly in commercial lines, will be highly valued.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 1,500,000 to SSP 2,500,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the remuneration structure.
