Job Overview
The Sustainable Agriculture Extension Officer will lead efforts to promote environmentally responsible farming practices in rural Iringa. This role bridges the gap between agricultural innovation and local communities, ensuring scalable solutions for sustainable food production. The position is ideal for professionals passionate about rural development and climate resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement training programs on sustainable farming techniques for smallholder farmers.
- Conduct field assessments to identify agricultural challenges and recommend solutions.
- Collaborate with local governments and NGOs to align projects with national development goals.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of agricultural interventions on food security and environmental health.
- Provide technical support for the adoption of drought-resistant crops and soil conservation methods.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in agricultural extension services or rural development projects.
- Strong knowledge of sustainable farming practices and climate adaptation strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for community engagement.
- Proficiency in data collection and reporting using digital tools.
- Ability to work independently in remote rural areas.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Rural Development, or related field.
- Advanced degree (Master’s) preferred but not mandatory.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in agricultural extension, rural development, or community-based projects.
- Previous work in Tanzania or similar East African contexts is advantageous.
Salary
5,000,000 – 7,000,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience.
