Job Overview

The Network Optimization Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and fine‑tuning MTN Tanzania’s radio access network (RAN) to ensure optimal performance, capacity, and coverage. This role involves close collaboration with RF planning, core network, and field operations teams to analyze network data, identify bottlenecks, and deploy solutions that enhance user experience. The engineer will also lead performance monitoring, drive KPI improvements, and support the rollout of new technologies such as 5G NR. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive network performance analysis using drive‑test, KPI dashboards, and OSS tools.
  • Develop and execute optimization plans to improve coverage, capacity, and quality of service.
  • Collaborate with RF planning and core network teams to design and implement network enhancements.
  • Lead the configuration and tuning of base station parameters, antenna tilt, and power settings.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as drop call rate, throughput, and latency.
  • Support the planning and deployment of 5G sites, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Provide technical guidance to field engineers during site optimization and troubleshooting.
  • Prepare detailed optimization reports and present findings to senior management.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies to recommend innovative solutions.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in network performance tools (e.g., Atoll, Mentum, TEMS).
  • In‑depth knowledge of LTE and 5G NR technologies, radio propagation, and antenna systems.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven mindset.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Project management experience, including planning, execution, and documentation.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS, or Ericsson NCE are advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in telecom network optimization, preferably within a mobile operator environment. Experience with 4G LTE networks and exposure to 5G rollout projects will be highly valued.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and other incentives.
