Job Overview
The Data Privacy Officer will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of privacy frameworks that safeguard personal and corporate data across all Microsoft Tanzania operations. Reporting to the Head of Legal & Compliance, the role ensures adherence to Tanzanian data protection regulations, international standards such as GDPR, and Microsoft’s internal policies. The officer will act as the primary point of contact for privacy inquiries, conduct risk assessments, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to embed privacy by design into products and services. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, update, and enforce the organization’s data privacy policies and procedures.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for new projects, products, and services.
- Monitor compliance with Tanzania’s Data Protection Act and international privacy standards.
- Serve as the liaison with the Tanzania Data Protection Authority and other regulatory bodies.
- Provide privacy training and awareness programs for employees and partners.
- Investigate and respond to data breach incidents, ensuring timely reporting and remediation.
- Collaborate with IT security, legal, and product teams to embed privacy controls into system architectures.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and reporting for internal audits and external inspections.
Required Skills
- In‑depth knowledge of Tanzanian data protection legislation and global privacy frameworks.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with senior leadership and external regulators.
- Proficiency in privacy management tools and data mapping software.
- Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business processes.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, Microsoft 365) and their privacy configurations.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field is required. Advanced certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or ISO 27701 Lead Implementer are highly desirable and will be considered a strong advantage.

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of professional experience in data privacy, compliance, or a related discipline, preferably within a technology or multinational environment. Prior experience handling regulatory inquiries and conducting privacy impact assessments is essential.
