Job Overview

The Marine Environmental Compliance Officer will lead Shell Tanzania’s efforts to ensure all marine operations adhere to local, regional, and international environmental regulations. This role involves monitoring, reporting, and implementing compliance strategies to mitigate environmental impacts, particularly in the Bagamoyo coastal area. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain marine environmental compliance programs aligned with Tanzanian regulations and international standards.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments of offshore and coastal activities.
• Prepare and submit detailed compliance reports to regulatory bodies, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
• Coordinate with engineering, operations, and legal teams to address compliance gaps and implement corrective actions.
• Engage with local communities, NGOs, and government agencies to foster transparent communication and collaborative environmental initiatives.
• Monitor emerging legislation and industry best practices, recommending updates to internal policies.
• Lead incident investigations related to marine pollution, providing root‑cause analysis and preventive measures.

Required Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Tanzanian marine environmental laws, IMO conventions, and EU directives.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills with proficiency in environmental management software.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Project management experience, including budgeting and timeline oversight.
• Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Oceanography, or a related field is required. Advanced certifications such as ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, NEPA, or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in marine environmental compliance, environmental monitoring, or related roles within the oil & gas, shipping, or renewable energy sectors.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances are also part of the compensation package.
