Job Overview

The Mine Safety & Health Officer will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of comprehensive safety programs across all mining operations in Geiva. Reporting to the Senior Safety Manager, the incumbent will ensure compliance with Tanzanian mining regulations, international best practices, and Barrick’s internal safety policies. The role involves conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety training, fostering a culture of zero harm. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans specific to underground and open‑pit operations.
• Conduct regular site inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments to proactively mitigate potential incidents.
• Lead incident investigations, prepare root‑cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Coordinate with engineering, operations, and environmental teams to integrate safety considerations into project planning and execution.
• Deliver comprehensive safety training programs, including inductions, refresher courses, and specialized certifications for all personnel.
• Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and compliance documentation for regulatory submissions.
• Monitor occupational health metrics, ergonomics, and wellness initiatives to promote overall employee well‑being.
• Serve as the primary liaison with Tanzanian regulatory bodies, ensuring timely audits and inspections.
• Promote a safety‑first culture through communication campaigns, toolbox talks, and employee engagement activities.

Required Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Tanzanian mining safety legislation and international standards such as ISO 45001.
• Strong analytical abilities to assess hazards, interpret data, and develop effective mitigation strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for training delivery and stakeholder engagement.
• Proficiency in incident investigation techniques and root‑cause analysis tools.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related field is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an asset.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in mine safety management, preferably within large‑scale gold or mineral operations. Experience with regulatory compliance, safety audits, and leading safety culture initiatives is essential.

Salary
