Job Overview

The Mine Safety and Health Officer will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of comprehensive safety programs at Barrick Gold’s Songea mining site. Reporting directly to the Site Safety Manager, you will ensure compliance with Tanzanian mining regulations, international best practices, and company policies. Your responsibilities will include risk assessments, incident investigations, safety training, and fostering a culture of proactive safety awareness among all employees and contractors. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular site inspections and hazard assessments to identify and mitigate safety risks.
• Develop, update, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
• Lead incident investigations, prepare root‑cause analyses, and recommend corrective actions.
• Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for all personnel, including contractors.
• Monitor compliance with Tanzanian mining safety regulations and international standards such as ISO 45001.
• Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation for internal and external audits.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and environmental teams to integrate safety considerations into project planning.
• Promote a safety‑first culture through communication campaigns, toolbox talks, and employee engagement activities.

Required Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of mining safety regulations and best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities for risk assessment.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in safety management within the mining sector, preferably in open‑pit or underground operations. Demonstrated experience in conducting safety audits, leading incident investigations, and delivering effective training programs is essential.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance. The package includes statutory benefits and additional allowances aligned with company policy.
