Job Overview

The Agricultural Drone Operations Manager will lead the planning, execution, and analysis of drone‑based precision agriculture initiatives for John Deere Tanzania. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive drone flight plans for a variety of crops, terrain types, and farm sizes across the Arusha region and beyond.
  • Lead a team of certified drone pilots, ensuring compliance with Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority regulations and internal safety standards.
  • Coordinate with agronomists and data scientists to process aerial imagery, generate NDVI maps, and produce actionable recommendations for clients.
  • Maintain and calibrate drone hardware, sensors, and software platforms to guarantee data accuracy and operational reliability.
  • Manage client relationships, conduct on‑site demonstrations, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Track key performance indicators such as flight efficiency, data turnaround time, and client satisfaction, reporting findings to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify new market opportunities and develop service packages that meet diverse farmer needs.
  • Stay updated on emerging drone technologies, regulatory changes, and best practices in precision agriculture.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in operating fixed‑wing and multirotor drones equipped with multispectral, thermal, and RGB sensors.
  • Strong understanding of GIS, remote sensing, and agricultural data analytics tools (e.g., Pix4D, DroneDeploy, ArcGIS).
  • Excellent project management abilities, with a track record of delivering complex technical projects on time and within budget.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting technical findings to non‑technical stakeholders.

Education
