Job Overview

This role involves documenting and preserving cultural heritage sites in Kigoma, with a focus on Lake Tanganyika’s archaeological zones and indigenous traditions. The position requires expertise in digital documentation, community collaboration, and heritage management to support UNESCO’s mission of safeguarding global cultural diversity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys and documentation of cultural heritage sites, including archaeological remains and intangible heritage practices.
  • Create digital archives using 3D mapping, photogrammetry, and GIS tools for heritage preservation.
  • Collaborate with local communities to record oral histories, traditional knowledge, and cultural practices.
  • Develop and implement heritage management plans in alignment with UNESCO standards.
  • Prepare reports, publications, and presentations for stakeholders and international audiences.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in digital documentation tools (e.g., SketchUp, ArcGIS, photogrammetry software).
  • Strong understanding of cultural heritage preservation methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
  • Experience in project management and grant reporting.
  • Fluency in Swahili and English.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or Cultural Heritage Management.
  • Master’s Degree preferred but not mandatory.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in cultural heritage documentation or related fields.
  • Proven track record in fieldwork and digital archiving projects.

Salary

5,000,000 – 7,000,000 SSP per annum, depending on experience.
