Job Overview

CyArk seeks a Digital Cultural Heritage Archivist to lead the documentation and preservation of Tanzania’s intangible cultural heritage. This role combines fieldwork in remote heritage sites with digital curation, ensuring high-resolution 3D models and datasets are created for global access. The position is based in Rukwa, a region rich in prehistoric rock art and archaeological significance.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys of culturally significant sites in Rukwa and surrounding regions
• Utilize 3D laser scanning, photogrammetry, and GIS mapping to create digital archives
• Collaborate with local communities and cultural experts to contextualize findings
• Maintain and expand CyArk’s open-access digital repository of Tanzanian heritage data
• Develop educational content for museums, schools, and virtual exhibitions

Required Skills

• Proficiency in 3D modeling software (e.g., Autodesk ReCap, Blender)
• Experience with photogrammetry and drone-based mapping technologies
• Strong understanding of cultural heritage preservation ethics
• Fluency in Swahili and English
• Ability to work in remote, challenging environments

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Archiving, Cultural Heritage Management, or related field
• Advanced certification in geospatial technologies preferred

Experience

• 3-5 years in cultural heritage documentation or digital archiving
• Proven fieldwork experience in archaeological or anthropological contexts

Salary

30,000 – 45,000 SSP annually, commensurate with experience.
