Job Overview

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS policies and procedures at Barrick Gold’s Mwanza mining operations. Reporting directly to the Regional EHS Director, the manager will ensure compliance with Tanzanian regulations, international best practices, and corporate sustainability goals. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding employee well‑being, protecting the surrounding ecosystem, and supporting the company’s reputation as a responsible employer. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and enforce EHS policies, standards, and procedures aligned with local legislation and global benchmarks.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and reporting to ensure timely remediation and learning.
  • Coordinate with operations, engineering, and community liaison teams to integrate EHS considerations into project planning and execution.
  • Manage waste management, water usage, and emissions monitoring programs to minimize environmental impact.
  • Deliver training programs and safety briefings for all staff levels, fostering a culture of proactive safety awareness.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory filings, sustainability reports, and internal performance metrics.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for government inspectors, NGOs, and local community representatives on EHS matters.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Tanzanian mining regulations, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001, and international EHS standards.
  • Proven leadership and team‑management abilities with excellent communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and translate findings into actionable plans.
  • Experience with incident investigation tools, risk assessment software, and environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural environments and remote field settings.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or NEBOSH are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage.

Minimum of five years’ experience in EHS management within the mining or heavy‑industry sector, with a proven track record of leading compliance programs and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of TZS 3,500,000 to TZS 5,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
