Job Overview

As a Maritime Safety Compliance Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring vessels and offshore installations meet international safety and environmental standards. This role involves conducting inspections, audits, and risk assessments to verify compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, and other regulatory frameworks. The position is based in Tanga, a key maritime hub in Tanzania, offering opportunities to contribute to regional maritime safety initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site inspections of ships and offshore structures to evaluate compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare detailed reports and recommendations for vessel operators, flag states, and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide technical guidance on risk mitigation strategies and safety management systems (SMS).
  • Collaborate with port authorities, shipowners, and classification societies to resolve compliance issues.
  • Stay updated on evolving maritime regulations and industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in maritime safety compliance or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime conventions (e.g., SOLAS, STCW, MARPOL).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using inspection software and digital documentation tools.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Maritime Safety, Environmental Science, or equivalent. Professional certifications such as ISO 30401 (Maritime Education and Training) or MCA-approved qualifications are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum 3–5 years of experience in maritime compliance, safety management, or offshore operations. Candidates with experience in East African maritime sectors will be prioritized.

Salary

3,500,000 – 4,500,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
