Job Overview
The Senior Structural Engineer will lead the design, analysis, and execution of complex structural components for large‑scale construction projects throughout Tanzania. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the incumbent will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, ensure compliance with local and international codes, and drive innovative solutions that meet client expectations and sustainability goals. Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural design and analysis for residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects using advanced software such as SAP2000, ETABS, and Revit.
- Develop detailed construction drawings, specifications, and calculations in accordance with Tanzanian standards and international best practices.
- Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, and project managers to integrate structural solutions seamlessly into overall project plans.
- Conduct site inspections and supervise construction activities to verify compliance with design intent and quality standards.
- Perform value engineering studies to optimize material usage, cost, and schedule without compromising safety.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams.
- Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and client presentations that highlight design rationale and project status.
- Ensure all designs meet health, safety, and environmental regulations, supporting the company’s commitment to sustainable construction.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, AutoCAD, Revit).
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian building codes, Eurocode, and other relevant international standards.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a detail‑oriented approach to engineering challenges.
- Effective communication skills for client interaction, team collaboration, and report preparation.
- Leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate project teams.
- Project management competence, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk assessment.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Candidates must possess at least five years of progressive experience in structural engineering, with a proven track record of delivering large‑scale projects on time and within budget. Experience in the Tanzanian construction market or similar African contexts is preferred, as is exposure to public‑private partnership (PPP) projects.
Salary
The position offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances may be included as part of the total compensation package.
