Job Overview

The Sustainable Agriculture Specialist will work with the IFAD Country Office in Tanzania to design and implement sustainable agriculture projects that benefit rural communities. The Specialist will work closely with government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector to identify opportunities for sustainable agriculture development and to develop strategies for scaling up successful initiatives.

The Specialist will also provide technical assistance to farmers, agricultural extension agents, and other stakeholders to improve their knowledge and skills in sustainable agriculture practices. This will include training on conservation agriculture, agroforestry, and integrated pest management, as well as support for the development of sustainable agriculture value chains.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement sustainable agriculture projects that benefit rural communities
  • Work with government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector to identify opportunities for sustainable agriculture development
  • Provide technical assistance to farmers, agricultural extension agents, and other stakeholders to improve their knowledge and skills in sustainable agriculture practices
  • Develop strategies for scaling up successful sustainable agriculture initiatives
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify best practices in sustainable agriculture and to develop new approaches to sustainable agriculture development
  • Required Skills
  • Master’s degree in Agriculture or related field
  • 5-7 years of experience in sustainable agriculture development
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable agriculture practices, including conservation agriculture, agroforestry, and integrated pest management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team and to build partnerships with government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector
  • Education

    The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Agriculture or a related field. A Ph.D. in Agriculture or a related field would be an asset.

    Experience

    The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience in sustainable agriculture development, including experience in project design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.

    Salary

    The salary for this position is 500,000 – 700,000 SSP per annum, depending on experience.
