Job Overview

The Urban Planning Analyst will support the Urban Development Department in creating, evaluating, and implementing comprehensive urban plans for Dodoma and surrounding municipalities. The analyst will work closely with senior planners, engineers, and policy makers to ensure that land use, transportation, housing, and environmental considerations are integrated into cohesive development strategies. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct spatial analysis and data collection to assess current land use patterns and future growth scenarios.
• Prepare detailed urban development reports, zoning maps, and policy recommendations for municipal authorities.
• Collaborate with transport engineers to integrate public transit solutions into urban plans.
• Evaluate environmental impact assessments and ensure compliance with national sustainability standards.
• Assist in the formulation of affordable housing strategies that address the needs of low‑income communities.
• Support stakeholder engagement workshops, public consultations, and inter‑agency coordination meetings.
• Monitor implementation progress of approved plans and provide periodic performance reports.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS) and urban planning software such as UrbanSim or CityEngine.
• Strong analytical abilities with experience in data visualization and statistical analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report drafting and stakeholder presentations.
• Knowledge of Tanzanian land use regulations, building codes, and environmental legislation.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple project timelines.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., RIBA, AICP) is considered an advantage and may enhance candidacy for future advancement.

Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of three to five years of relevant experience in urban planning, land use analysis, or related fields. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or international development partners in Tanzania or East Africa is highly valued.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of 1,500,000 to 2,500,000 Tanzanian Shillings (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary reviews are conducted annually based on performance and market benchmarks.
