Job Overview

The Hydrology Modeler will play a critical role in our technical team by developing and maintaining complex mathematical models to simulate groundwater and surface water movement. This role is essential for our strategic planning in the Tabora region, where water scarcity is a significant concern. You will be responsible for analyzing vast datasets to predict seasonal water availability and assess the impact of climate change on local aquifers. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and calibrate numerical groundwater models using industry-standard software to simulate aquifer responses to extraction and recharge.
  • Analyze hydrological data collected from field sensors and satellite imagery to identify trends in water table fluctuations.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports and maps that communicate complex hydrological findings to non-technical stakeholders and government officials.
  • Collaborate with field engineers to ensure that water infrastructure projects are designed based on accurate predictive modeling.
  • Monitor the impact of climate variability on local water basins to inform long-term sustainability strategies.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in hydrological modeling software such as MODFLOW, GSFLOW, or MIKE SHE.
  • Strong expertise in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for spatial data analysis and visualization.
  • Exceptional mathematical and statistical modeling capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret complex environmental datasets and translate them into actionable management plans.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting technical data to diverse audiences.

Education

A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Geosciences, or a closely related field is required. A PhD in a specialized hydrological field is highly preferred.

Experience

Candidates must possess at least 5 years of professional experience in hydrological modeling, preferably within an international development or environmental consultancy context. Proven experience working in semi-arid regions or managing groundwater data is a significant advantage.

Salary

The monthly salary for this position ranges from 4,500,000 to 6,200,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s level of expertise and technical proficiency.
