Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Hydrologist to lead our technical assessments and groundwater modeling initiatives across the Kusini region. This role is critical to our mission, as it involves analyzing complex hydrological data to design sustainable water supply systems for underserved communities. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing large-scale water resource assessments, overseeing field data collection, and providing technical guidance to junior staff and local partners. This position requires a deep understanding of aquifer dynamics, groundwater-surface water interactions, and the impact of climate variability on water availability. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive groundwater and surface water assessments to inform community water supply projects.
- Develop and maintain complex hydrological models to predict water availability under various climate scenarios.
- Supervise field teams during borehole drilling and water quality testing activities.
- Collaborate with government agencies to ensure all water management projects comply with national regulations.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and feasibility studies for large-scale infrastructure investments.
- Provide technical mentorship to local water committees and junior hydrological technicians.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in hydrological modeling software such as MODFLOW or FEFLOW.
- Strong expertise in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for spatial analysis of water resources.
- Excellent technical writing skills for producing high-quality scientific reports.
- Strong project management capabilities and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Deep understanding of Tanzanian water laws and environmental protection standards.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Geology, or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree in Water Management or Environmental Science is highly preferred and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Candidates must possess at least five years of professional experience in hydrological research, groundwater assessment, or water resource management. Proven experience working in rural or semi-arid environments is essential. Experience in managing field-based data collection teams and working with international NGOs is a significant plus.
