Job Overview

The Marine Operations Manager will lead all marine operational activities at the Bagamoyo terminal, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant vessel handling, cargo operations, and crew coordination. Reporting to the Regional Operations Director, you will develop operational plans, oversee day‑to‑day activities, and collaborate with port authorities, pilots, and third‑party service providers. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all vessel arrivals, departures, and berthing operations at Bagamoyo port.
  • Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations, Tanzanian maritime law, and CMA CGM safety standards.
  • Manage relationships with pilots, tug operators, stevedores, and port authorities to optimize turnaround times.
  • Develop and implement operational SOPs, emergency response plans, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor vessel performance metrics, fuel consumption, and emissions to support sustainability goals.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of marine officers, deck crew, and support staff, providing coaching and performance feedback.
  • Prepare operational reports, incident investigations, and cost analyses for senior management.
  • Coordinate with the Commercial and Logistics departments to align vessel capacity with cargo bookings.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of maritime navigation, vessel handling, and port operations.
  • Proficiency in maritime software systems (e.g., NAVIS, AIS, Port Management Systems).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Analytical mindset with the capacity to interpret operational data and drive efficiency.
  • Fluency in English; Swahili proficiency is an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make decisive decisions during critical situations.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as STCW, ISM Code, or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in marine operations, ship handling, or port management, with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Experience with international shipping lines and familiarity with Tanzanian port regulations will be considered a strong asset.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of 3,000,000 to 5,000,000 Tanzanian Shillings (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances are also part of the compensation package.
