Job Overview

The Humanitarian Program Officer will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of food security and nutrition programs in the Njombe region. This role requires close coordination with local authorities, partner NGOs, and community groups to ensure that interventions are context‑appropriate, gender‑sensitive, and aligned with national development strategies. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive program plans that address food insecurity, malnutrition, and livelihood challenges in Njombe.
• Conduct needs assessments, baseline surveys, and impact evaluations to inform program design and adaptation.
• Manage a multi‑million SSP budget, ensuring transparent financial tracking and timely disbursement of funds.
• Coordinate with government ministries, local councils, and partner NGOs to align activities with national policies and sectoral strategies.
• Prepare high‑quality technical reports, donor briefs, and progress updates in line with WFP standards.
• Lead a team of field officers, providing mentorship, performance feedback, and capacity‑building support.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, gender equality, and environmental sustainability guidelines.
• Represent WFP at regional coordination meetings, stakeholder forums, and donor events.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical and strategic planning abilities with a proven track record in humanitarian program management.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, capable of building consensus among diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in budgeting, financial reporting, and donor compliance procedures.
• Fluency in English and Swahili; additional local languages are an asset.
• Advanced knowledge of food security frameworks, nutrition interventions, and resilience‑building approaches.
• Ability to work independently in remote settings while maintaining high levels of professionalism.

Education

A Master’s degree in International Development, Humanitarian Affairs, Public Policy, Agriculture, Nutrition, or a closely related discipline is required. Relevant certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or humanitarian standards (e.g., Core Humanitarian Standard) are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five years’ experience managing large‑scale humanitarian or development programs, preferably with UN agencies, NGOs, or government ministries. Experience in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania or similar contexts will be considered an advantage.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from SSP 2,000,000 to SSP 3,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary is paid monthly and includes statutory benefits as per Tanzanian labor law.
