Job Overview

The Curriculum Development Specialist will lead the design, adaptation, and implementation of competency‑based curricula for primary and secondary education in the Mbeya region. Reporting to the Senior Education Advisor, the specialist will work closely with the Ministry of Education, local schools, and development partners to ensure curricula align with national standards and the World Bank’s strategic objectives. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify gaps in existing curricula and recommend evidence‑based improvements.
  • Develop competency‑based curriculum frameworks for core subjects, integrating digital resources and local context.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, teachers, and policymakers to pilot and refine curriculum modules.
  • Provide technical guidance and capacity‑building workshops for curriculum developers and school administrators.
  • Monitor and evaluate curriculum implementation, producing detailed reports and actionable recommendations.
  • Ensure alignment with national education standards, World Bank policies, and Sustainable Development Goal 4.
  • Support the creation of assessment tools and teacher guides that promote effective instructional practices.

Required Skills

  • Strong expertise in curriculum design, instructional design, and competency‑based education.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and report‑writing abilities.
  • Proficiency in English and Swahili, both written and spoken.
  • Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or international development organizations.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with educational technology platforms and e‑learning solutions.

Education

A Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum Studies, Educational Psychology, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with additional certifications in instructional design or project management will be given preference.

Experience

Minimum of five years of professional experience in curriculum development, preferably within the Tanzanian education system or comparable emerging markets. Experience in leading large‑scale education reforms and working in multicultural teams is essential.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 2,000,000 to SSP 3,500,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The compensation package includes performance‑based incentives and allowances for professional development.
