Job Overview
The AI Ethics Officer will lead the development and implementation of ethical frameworks for AI initiatives across Google Tanzania. You will collaborate with product managers, engineers, legal counsel, and external stakeholders to assess risks, define governance policies, and ensure compliance with local and international regulations. This position plays a pivotal role in fostering trust among users and partners, aligning AI solutions with societal values, and promoting responsible innovation. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain AI ethics guidelines, risk assessment tools, and compliance checklists tailored to Tanzanian regulatory environment.
- Conduct ethical impact assessments for new AI products and features, identifying potential biases, privacy concerns, and societal implications.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate ethical considerations into the product lifecycle from design to deployment.
- Provide training and mentorship to engineers and product teams on responsible AI practices.
- Engage with external experts, NGOs, and government bodies to stay abreast of emerging standards and best practices.
- Prepare and present reports to senior leadership on ethical compliance status and recommendations.
- Monitor AI system performance post‑launch to detect and mitigate unintended consequences.
Required Skills
- Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies, data governance, and ethical frameworks.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to evaluate complex technical and societal trade‑offs.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Knowledge of Tanzanian data protection laws, GDPR, and emerging AI regulations.
- Proficiency in drafting policy documents, audit reports, and training materials.
- Ability to work independently and lead interdisciplinary initiatives.
Education
A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Ethics, Law, Philosophy, or a related field is required. Advanced certifications in AI ethics, data privacy, or compliance (e.g., ISO 27001, AI4People) are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years of professional experience in AI ethics, data governance, compliance, or a related discipline. Prior experience within a technology company or a multinational corporation is preferred.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based bonuses may be awarded.
