Job Overview

The Network Security Engineer will design, implement, and manage security solutions across Vodacom Tanzania’s extensive network infrastructure. Reporting to the Head of IT Security, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to assess vulnerabilities, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Your expertise will be pivotal in protecting the company’s data centers, core network elements, and cloud environments from emerging cyber threats. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and maintain firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPN solutions across the network.
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify and remediate security gaps.
  • Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry regulations such as ISO 27001 and GDPR.
  • Monitor security alerts using SIEM tools, analyze incidents, and lead incident response activities.
  • Collaborate with network engineers to integrate security controls into new infrastructure projects.
  • Perform forensic investigations and produce detailed incident reports for senior management.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior security staff.
  • Stay updated on emerging threats, attack vectors, and security technologies to recommend proactive enhancements.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S) and security architectures.
  • Hands‑on experience with firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet), IDS/IPS, and VPN technologies.
  • Proficiency in SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, QRadar) and log analysis.
  • Familiarity with cloud security concepts (AWS, Azure) and container security.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical thinking.
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑departmental collaboration.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or CCNP Security are highly desirable.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or specialized certifications will be considered an advantage.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of proven experience in network security engineering, preferably within a telecommunications or large‑scale enterprise environment. Experience with regulatory compliance and incident response is essential.

Salary
