Job Overview

The Satellite Communications Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of satellite communication systems that serve remote and underserved regions of Tanzania. Reporting to the Lead Network Architect, the engineer will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration of satellite links with terrestrial networks, enhancing coverage, reliability, and performance. This role is central to Ericsson’s mission of delivering robust connectivity solutions that enable economic development and social inclusion across the nation. The successful candidate will play a pivotal part in project planning, technical validation, and field deployment, contributing to the overall success of Ericsson’s satellite initiatives in East Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer satellite communication architectures, including VSAT, Ka‑band, and LEO constellations, tailored to Tanzanian market requirements.
  • Conduct RF link budget analysis, frequency planning, and interference mitigation to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Lead the integration of satellite terminals with Ericsson’s core network equipment, coordinating with hardware and software teams.
  • Perform site surveys, feasibility studies, and technical assessments for new satellite sites in remote locations.
  • Develop and execute test plans, validation procedures, and performance monitoring for deployed satellite links.
  • Collaborate with local regulators and spectrum authorities to secure licensing and compliance.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for field engineers during installation and maintenance phases.
  • Document system designs, configuration standards, and operational guidelines in alignment with Ericsson’s quality processes.
  • Stay abreast of emerging satellite technologies, industry standards, and market trends to drive continuous improvement.

Required Skills

  • Strong expertise in satellite communications, RF engineering, and network integration.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools such as STK, ATCAD, or similar for link analysis.
  • Hands‑on experience with VSAT equipment, antenna alignment, and modem configuration.
  • Solid understanding of IP networking, MPLS, and LTE/5G backhaul concepts.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical mindset.
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑team collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently in challenging field environments.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in satellite communications (e.g., Certified Satellite Communications Engineer) or a Master’s degree are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five years of professional experience in satellite system design, deployment, or operations, preferably within the African market. Prior experience with Ericsson equipment or similar vendor solutions is a plus.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives, health insurance, and pension contributions.
