Job Overview
The Wind Turbine Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of wind turbine assets within Vestas Tanzania’s portfolio. This role involves hands‑on technical work, troubleshooting, and coordination with cross‑functional teams to minimize downtime and maximize energy production. The engineer will also support the implementation of predictive maintenance strategies, leveraging data analytics and condition monitoring tools. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and corrective maintenance on wind turbine mechanical and electrical systems.
- Diagnose faults using diagnostic tools, SCADA data, and on‑site inspections.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules to reduce unplanned outages.
- Collaborate with the Operations team to plan turbine shutdowns and service windows.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and update the asset management system.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on all site activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance turbine availability and performance.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of wind turbine components, including gearboxes, generators, blades, and control systems.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment such as vibration analyzers, infrared cameras, and multimeters.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
- Effective communication skills for reporting findings and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to safety standards and the ability to conduct risk assessments.
- Willingness to travel to remote turbine sites and work in varying weather conditions.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Wind Turbine Technician (CWT) or equivalent are highly desirable.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience maintaining wind turbines or comparable heavy industrial equipment. Experience with condition‑based monitoring, SCADA systems, and predictive maintenance methodologies will be considered an advantage.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and allowances for travel and site work.
