Job Overview

The Network Optimization Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and fine‑tuning MTN Tanzania’s radio access network (RAN) and core transport infrastructure. Reporting to the Lead Network Architect, the engineer will analyze performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and apply optimization techniques to improve coverage, capacity, and quality of service. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive performance analysis of RAN and core network elements using KPI dashboards and drive corrective actions.
• Develop and execute optimization plans to enhance coverage, capacity, and throughput, focusing on high‑traffic zones in Shinyanga.
• Collaborate with RF engineers to refine antenna tilt, power settings, and handover parameters.
• Implement network automation scripts and tools to streamline monitoring and troubleshooting processes.
• Coordinate with vendors for firmware upgrades, parameter tuning, and technical support.
• Prepare detailed optimization reports and present findings to senior management and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with national telecommunications regulations and MTN’s internal quality standards.
• Participate in network rollout projects, providing optimization expertise during site integration.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in network performance tools (e.g., NetAct, OSS, TEMS).
• In‑depth knowledge of LTE, LTE‑Advanced, and emerging 5G technologies.
• Experience with radio planning software such as Atoll or Planet.
• Ability to interpret KPI trends and translate them into actionable optimization strategies.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation tasks.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and network incident management.
• Team‑oriented mindset with a proactive problem‑solving attitude.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS, or Huawei HCNP are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in telecom network optimization, preferably within a mobile operator environment. Demonstrated success in improving network KPIs and delivering measurable performance gains is essential.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
