Job Overview
The Renewable Energy Storage Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of large‑scale battery storage systems that complement solar and wind projects throughout Tanzania. Reporting to the Head of Energy Solutions, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including project managers, electrical designers, and field technicians—to deliver reliable, cost‑effective storage solutions that meet local grid requirements and international safety standards. This role is pivotal in supporting Tesla Tanzania’s mission to provide clean, uninterrupted power, and it directly contributes to the broader goal of expanding clean energy infrastructure in Tanzania. Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer utility‑scale battery storage systems, including power conversion, thermal management, and control architecture.
- Develop detailed technical specifications, schematics, and layout drawings using industry‑standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, PVSyst).
- Conduct feasibility studies, cost‑benefit analyses, and performance simulations to optimize system sizing and ROI.
- Coordinate with procurement and construction teams to ensure timely delivery of components and adherence to project schedules.
- Lead on‑site installation, commissioning, and performance testing of storage assets, ensuring compliance with local regulations and Tesla safety protocols.
- Implement monitoring and data analytics tools to track system health, efficiency, and degradation over time.
- Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams, troubleshooting issues and recommending corrective actions.
- Collaborate with government agencies and utility providers to secure permits, grid interconnection agreements, and incentives.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Mentor junior engineers and interns, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of lithium‑ion battery chemistry, BMS (Battery Management Systems), and grid integration.
- Proficiency in power system analysis, load flow studies, and fault calculations.
- Experience with renewable energy projects, particularly solar‑plus‑storage configurations.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven mindset.
- Effective communication skills for interfacing with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Project management experience, including budgeting and timeline control.
- Familiarity with Tanzanian energy regulations and standards (e.g., TSC, TANESCO).
- Ability to work independently in remote locations and adapt to challenging field conditions.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in energy storage, such as the “Certified Energy Storage Professional (CESP)” or equivalent, are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience designing, installing, or managing large‑scale battery storage projects. Prior exposure to renewable energy integration projects in East Africa or similar emerging markets will be considered an advantage.
Salary
The competitive compensation package ranges from 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and stock‑option opportunities may be offered to exceptional candidates.
