Position Summary
The Patient Safety Officer will coordinate hospital-wide initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes, reduce clinical risks, and strengthen compliance with healthcare quality standards. Key Responsibilities
Patient Safety & Quality Management
- Implement and monitor patient safety standards across all clinical departments.
- Ensure compliance with International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG) and healthcare quality requirements.
- Promote a strong culture of quality improvement and patient-centered care.
- Support initiatives that reduce clinical errors and adverse patient events.
- Conduct investigations and recommend corrective actions following patient safety incidents.
Clinical Audits & Compliance
- Perform regular clinical audits to evaluate compliance with hospital policies and international standards.
- Participate in internal and external quality assessments.
- Conduct chart reviews and documentation audits.
- Monitor compliance with accreditation requirements and healthcare regulations.
- Assist departments in implementing quality improvement recommendations.
Risk Management & Incident Reporting
- Coordinate risk management activities related to patient care.
- Facilitate root cause analysis for patient safety incidents.
- Monitor patient falls, pressure ulcers, and clinical adverse events.
- Maintain accurate incident reporting records and safety data.
- Develop recommendations to minimize healthcare risks.
Training & Staff Development
- Deliver training programs on patient safety standards and healthcare quality requirements.
- Support continuing medical education and nursing education initiatives.
- Provide guidance on institutional policies and clinical procedures.
- Conduct orientation sessions for new healthcare professionals.
- Promote awareness of best practices in patient safety and clinical excellence.
Accreditation & Healthcare Standards
- Support Joint Commission International accreditation activities.
- Assist with implementation of healthcare quality frameworks.
- Monitor departmental compliance with accreditation standards.
- Participate in policy review and development processes.
- Promote evidence-based healthcare practices throughout the institution.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Valid registration and practicing license with the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC).
Professional Experience
- Minimum 2 years of active clinical experience in a hospital environment.
- Experience in healthcare quality, patient safety, nursing leadership, or hospital operations is advantageous.
- Background in public health or health management is considered an added advantage.
